A NOTE FROM ONE OF OUR GRATEFUL RECIPIENT LIAISONS:
"I am writing to inform you of the colossal impact you have made on one of my school families this year. Typically your generosity is shared among many here, but this year one of our families was the victim of an unspeakable crime. The father sits in jail as a result.
When the atrocity came to light, the family began to quickly spiral downward and we had to jump in to make sure the children and mother were properly cared for. Your Walmart cards fed and clothed them this year. The mother has expressed her deepest
gratitude time and time again.
Despite the terrible chaos their father has flung the family into, I see these kids come to school everyday and get to just be kids while they are here. I believe that your support for this family has changed their lives forever. When it all first began, the mother had no means to support herself or her four kids.
Can you imagine being in that position? She had no job, she did not know how to drive, she did not know how to speak our language, there was no savings account to dip into and the only family she had was her husband's. And they turned their back on her.
While their scars will remain with them forever, this family will survive and the students will make it to college one day. When we were able to make sure there was always enough food on the table, mom was able to move forward.
She knows how to drive now, her children are getting proper medical care and counseling, she is learning to earn an income and she is teaching her children how to get back up when life knocks you down. In all of my years in education, this is the worst situation I have ever come across.
I cannot tell you how grateful I am to have you as a partner. Thank you all for your immeasurable generosity. You make a difference."
